About the EB-5 Visa
The EB-5 immigrant investor visa was created by Congress within the Immigration Act to attract foreign investment to the United States, and create jobs, particularly in rural and high unemployment areas. By investing in an eligible business, investors and their families can qualify for a Green Card in a process that for some would be otherwise unattainable.
The investment must come from lawful means, and as a criterion for the investment, it must create 10 full time jobs for US workers within 2 years. Funds must remain invested until permanent residence is granted.
Targeted Employment Areas
Typically, to qualify for an EB-5 visa, the amount invested must be at least $1,800,000 – but there is an exception, targeted employment areas. When the location of the investment and created jobs are within a targeted investment area, the minimum investment drops by half to just $900,000. Targeted Employment areas are defined as:
1. Rural areas, defined as any area other than one within a metropolitan statistical area or within the boundary of a city or town with a population of 20,000 or more; or
2. Areas having an unemployment rate that is at least 150% of the national average.

Making an investment of $900,000 or greater is a big decision. You need to be comfortable with the company and business model you are investing in and people behind it.
